THE FALLS:
Ayers Gap, or Bailey’s Ravine, as it is more commonly called, is a quiet little place just off CT 207. The main attraction, a 10-foot plunge, is followed by several smaller drops and waterslides. The falls here are not particularly spectacular, but the hemlock-surrounded ravine is pretty and rather secluded. The Nature Conservancy manages the 80 acres of Ayers Gap Preserve and requires that visitors come between sunrise and sunset.
TRAIL INFORMATION:
The parking area is not actually the trailhead. To reach the ravine, you must walk back down CT 207, heading east for a few hundred feet, and turn left onto Ayer Road. Walk down Ayer Road for about 0.1 mile and the trailhead will be marked on your left. A well-used trail guides you to the top of the falls. Lesser-used trails navigate around the ravine and the rest of the nature preserve.
