THE FALLS:

Burr Falls is a 45-foot chain of cascades that skip and step their way down right beside a road. Hundreds of people drive by these cascades daily, but few bother to stop since it has not been developed into a formal rest-stop. Parking is a bit up the road and there is no shoulder along the road from which to stop. Also, be aware that the name Burr Falls is not official; it was coined by the proprietor of ctwaterfalls.com, an excellent source for information about waterfalls of this state.

TRAIL INFORMATION:

The falls are clearly viewable from Burr Mountain Rd. There does not appear to be any path to the base of the falls, so the only safe viewpoint appears to be from the road itself.

DIRECTIONS:

From the junction of CT 8 and US 44 in the town of Winsted, take CT 8 south to exit 46. Take a right onto Pinewoods Rd and head west for 0.2 mile while following signs to “Burr Pond State Park”. Take a left onto Winsted Rd, follow it for 0.9 mile and take a right onto Burr Mountain Rd. Follow Burr Mountain Rd. for 0.2 miles and the falls can be seen on your left. A small parking area for the falls exists about 0.1 mile above the falls on the left side of the road. To get to Winsted, take US 44 west from Hartford or CT 8 north from Torrington.
