THE FALLS:
Hudson Brook Chasm does not contain any major waterfalls. What it does have is a hundred-foot-long chasm and plenty of petite but powerful cascades. To see the gorge and the cascades contained within, the park has constructed a maze of boardwalk trails following chain link fences that let you see just about every possible viewpoint you would want to.
The geology of the area is fascinating. The marble rock formations are worth the visit alone, with many circular pools and small caves carved out in the chasm. There is also a natural bridge after which the park is named. Some may find the extensive fencing placed in and around the chasm to be damaging to the natural environment, but it allows you to witness viewpoints that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Although there are not any specific waterfalls worth noting, this site is still worth visiting because it does have some small cascades, it is a great place for a picnic, and the chasm is fascinating. There is a visitor center with restrooms and wide fields well-suited for a family gathering or picnic.
TRAIL INFORMATION:
Starting from the parking lot, follow the clear trail to the falls. There is a sign for “Natural Bridges.” If the gate to the state park is closed, you will have to walk up the road for 0.2 mile until you see a staircase on your left leading uphill into the woods. The chasm is just up these stairs. There is also a viewpoint of the bottom of the chasm just to the left of this staircase. If the gate is closed, the total walk for you will be 0.3 mile each way, with an elevation gain of approximately 100 feet.
