Two of the most charming waterfalls in Vermont have the same name. There is Moss Glen Falls of Stowe, and there is Moss Glen Falls of Granville, a roadside attraction featured in nearly every photographic portrait of Vermont ever published. The second is the focus of this chapter. This waterfall is a gorgeous horsetail with thin streams of water which choose their path down a slightly angled rock face. The falls start out by bubbling down over some short steps before spreading out to dance down into a light teal pool about 20 feet wide. There are good views all around these falls, from the river to the end of the boardwalk to the road itself. If you are as lucky as we have been during two visits, dozens of pretty black and white butterflies soaring around the falls will help create a mystical atmosphere here. Moss Glen Falls is a quick stop for many highway travelers, but if you take the time to admire it fully you will see how indescribably beautiful this place is. There is even an added waterfall bonus if the season is right. In the spring, a thin horsetail about 50 feet tall, often referred to as Little Moss Glen Falls, is found close to the star of the show. If you are not looking carefully along the boardwalk, you might miss it.

The waterfall is located at the end of the boardwalk trail that starts at the designated parking area. As you approach the main falls, you may notice Little Moss Glen Falls to your right, especially if enough water is flowing down. We suspect that many visitors walk right past this additional set of falls without even noticing them, as they are set a little ways back in the woods and are a minor attraction in comparison to the main falls here.
